Mamun Rashid, Managing Director
Mamun has over 25 years experience in financial services and public practice. Early in his career, he was employed by ANZ and subsequently St George Bank in the areas of money markets, treasury, corporate lending and credit. Later in his career, he practiced in both accounting and law in insolvency and related management consulting areas for a period of 8 years. In the mid-nineties, he established his own practice and grew his firm with offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. He was one of the founding shareholders in the Aegis Group of Companies, which before its sale to Morningstar (listed on the NASDAQ) was the largest independent equities research house in Australia. Rashid is both a practicing Chartered Accountant and a Barrister and Solicitor. He is also member of the NSW Law Society. CPA and Fellow of FINSIA.
Mamun is currently the Managing Director of Independent Investment Research “IIR” and Altavista Research and is responsible for managing the business focusing on publishing quality equities research, managed investment ratings and ETF research which are principally distributed via www.independentresearch.com.au and www.altavistaresearch.com.au and through various other distribution networks that has been built up since 1999.
Mamun is both a practicing Chartered Accountant and a Barrister and Solicitor. He is member of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants and Certified Practicing Accountants. He is also a member of the NSW Law Society and Fellow of FINSIA.
John Kimber – Executive Director - Americas
John Kimber is the Executive Director in North America of Independent Investment Research.
After graduating in Economics from University of Sydney John spent several years at Coopers and Lybrand (now Pwc) as an accountant and then changed career and was employed as a financial journalist and economics correspondent in South Africa and London for the Financial Times and finally with Reuters Economic Services. He then changed his career path again and commenced work as a research analyst and later became a full Member of the Sydney Futures Exchange. John was employed for many years in Sydney with Prudential Bache Securities, BT Alex Brown (Bankers Trust) and then with Ord Minnett (JP Morgan) where he specialized in offshore investments and the local subsidiaries of foreign corporations in Australia. He is married to an American from Denver and located there in October 2012 to further pursue his career with IIR He maintains close links with the Colorado mining industry and with the biotechnology and medical device industry in Colorado.
John takes an active interest in all aspects of Denver business, sporting and cultural life. He is an active member of the Denver Athletic Club, The Colorado Mining Association, the Society for Mining and Exploration, the Denver Petroleum Club and the Colorado Bio Science Association and attends most of their meetings. He is an active participant with graduates from the Colorado School of Mines. John is a regular attendee at the PDAC conference in Toronto and maintains close links with the Australian Stock Exchange, Bank of New York, various brokerages and investment institutions, and the various Exchanges in the United States which provide listing facilities for Australian companies.
Micheal Krause, Head of Investment Research
As the firm’s chief analyst Mr. Krause is responsible for maintaining the firm’s research content and outputs. He is also a frequent contributor to broadcast and print media.
Mr. Krause worked at UBS Investment Bank in New York. As part of a consistently II-ranked Investment Strategy team, he developed expertise in the fundamental analysis of indices, which he now applies to the analysis of securities. Before joining UBS, Michael was a Senior Equity Analyst at a Japanese buy-side firm in New York, where he specialized in disciplined valuation analysis at a time when it was almost a forgotten art (the late 1990s). Prior to that, he was an analyst and editor of research at Clarion Capital in Taiwan.
Having lived and worked in Asia for six years, he speaks Japanese and Chinese (Mandarin). Michael graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in Finance and has more than a decade of experience as an investment professional.
John Mcdonald – Team Leader – Mining Research
John is a Mining Engineer and has had over 20 years of experience in research obtained from both mining and financial services industry. He initially gained his investment research experience whlilst at AME Group and then he consulted to various brokers in Australia. He assists and guides the research team with technical mining expertise.
Claire Aitchison, Supervisory Analyst
Claire Aitchison commenced with the Aegis Group as an analyst in 2006 specialising in equities, fixed interest and hybrid research. Over the years Claire undertook research on more than 100 equity style reviews. She also specialises in listed managed investments. She is the lead analyst with respect to all small cap research mandates. She has a Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction and a Grad Diploma in Accounting from Deakin University.
Caroline Elton, Team Leader - Distribution and Platform Development
Caroline has a bachelor of economics from the ANU. Caroline commenced her career in the Health and Sciences industry as an research analyst. She then progressed into marketing and communication. She has advised various listed companies including Merck and Novartis over 12 years with respect to marketing and communication. Since then she has been with the Aegis Group of Companies assisting the company with marketing and communication with respect to equities research publications. She is responsible for the distribution of research outputs to key clients and also assists with the delivery of research within advisory firms in the wealth management sector.
